Beyond the Sword is the second expansion pack for the Sid Meier's Civilization IV game. Developed for PC by the famous studio Firaxis Games, Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword offers the widest array of developments in the history of the Civilization franchise. This expansion focuses on the period after the invention of gunpowder and incorporates, among many other improvements, 10 new civilizations, 16 new leaders of civilizations, 11 new scenarios and new units and buildings.

Features: - An increasingly epic game: Firaxis Games has carried out an immense increase in the number of units, buildings and technologies to a game already epic, with the focus on the most modern periods of history. - New scenarios: The expansion includes 12 new scenarios, many of which contain items not covered so far in the series. - New Civilizations: The expansion includes ten new civilizations, such as Portugal, Babylon and Netherlands. - More leaders: Sixteen leaders for the ten new civilizations, as well as several more for existing ones. - Corporations: A new feature of the game that allows you to create corporations and spread them throughout the world. Espionage: Now available much earlier in the game time line, this feature of the game, much improved and expanded, offers players many ways to spy on their enemies, sowing discontent in the cities and defend the secrets of his government. - New random events such as natural disasters. - New wonders: five new wonders waiting to be discovered. - The Apostolic Palace: The United Nations will appear earlier in the game, giving players the opportunity to obtain prior diplomatic victory. - Advanced beginning: By fans request, this new feature will allow players to create their empires as "buying" their components, thus able to enjoy the new features of the expansion over a period of shorter time. - An improved AI: now it is much harder to succeed in higher levels of difficulty. They also have expanded the ways in which AI will try to achieve victory.

The expansion offers several new types of world and game options. The player will have the option to play with any combination of leading-civilization, therefore allowing many possibilities.
Finally, players can choose religions which will develop specific technologies, thus there could be different religions established in each new game.
